Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine was raised and born to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her mother Pam is a former back-up singer with Philadelphia International Records. In the age of five, her father was appointed to be the city's Historic Strawberry Mansion curator. She and her family moved later to the historic mansion. In 2005 she graduated from Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts as a vocal music major. Sullivan performed as a contralto singer for the children's choir and, after a few years as a member of the adult chorus. Sullivan did not get exposed to secular music at the beginning. "When I reached eleven years old, I was approached by someone asking to enroll me on one of the gospel records. I refused to take that step," she says. "Then the time came that McDonald's offered a competition to youngsters in the major cities I had the opportunity to perform 'Accept Whatever God Gives' on Showtime on the Apollo and the audience responded really well". She sang with Stevie Wonder at his grandson's birthday party at thirteen. Sullivan was signed initially to Jive Records at the age fifteen. The label initially signed Sullivan to Jive Records in the year fifteen. She recorded an entire album, but the album didn't get released. Sullivan was later dismissed by the label. There was a close relationship with Missy Elliott she produced some of the songs on her debut album, which included the hit single "Backstabbers" composed by Timbaland and composed by Elliott.
